EA FC 26 Clubs roles and positions: lineup guide
Position answers where a player starts; team role answers which decisions they repeat. A usable lineup needs both.

Step 1
Goalkeeper and defence
Lock goalkeeper and centre-backs first because they are difficult to replace with a last-minute shuffle.
Set recovery and cover rules for full-backs and wing-backs before both sides advance together.
Step 2
Central midfield
Separate first-pass, attacking-support and box-protection responsibilities so several midfielders do not chase the same event.
When CM changes to CAM or CDM, explain which decisions change with the starting height.
Step 3
Attack and width
Forwards benefit from complementary movement: one connection and one depth option can be clearer than identical profiles.
Wide players should know who remains available for the return pass.
Step 4
Bench and substitutions
Store only realistic secondary positions so one substitution does not force three more moves.
Save a fallback lineup for the specialist your group most often misses.
