How to defend with AI in EA FC 26 Clubs

AI defenders can be inconsistent, so a reliable plan starts with human cover and captain discipline rather than a magic setting.

Step 1

Identify the repeating breakdown

Review several conceded attacks and label the recurring trigger: a central turnover, an early defender step or an untracked run. Do not rebuild the tactic around one rebound.

FC 26 community threads disagree on the best formation. Treat that disagreement as a reason to test a process, not copy one depth value.

Step 2

Use a human screen

With three to five humans, test a human CDM who blocks the central pass, covers an AI step and remains available in buildup.

Agree when the CDM presses and when the player protects the box; trying to do both at once opens the same gap.

Step 3

Use teammate pressure deliberately

Captain pressure can pull an AI player out of shape when held without a target. Trigger it briefly after a teammate has closed the nearest pass.

After losing possession, block the dangerous route manually before asking AI to engage.

Step 4

Test one change across three matches

Change one variable: human CDM, conservative full-backs or the pressure rule. Record the type of each dangerous chance.

Keep the change only when the repeated failure becomes less common. AI behaviour remains patch- and club-level-sensitive.
