Step 1

CDM protects balance

A CDM prioritises safety and protects the centre before joining attack. Much of the value is in prevented chances.

Step 2

A CM must be available for the first pass and support both sides. Decision endurance matters as much as speed.

Step 3

CAM attacks space and speeds up moves, but must at least block the central pass after losing the ball.
