The 5v5 format exposes spacing mistakes quickly. It is useful for decision practice, but it does not replace full-squad habits.

Step 1

Roles matter more than the shape

Assign the last defender, connector and depth option before kickoff. One lost role opens the whole pitch in a small format.

Step 2

After a turnover, the nearest player slows the attack while others protect the centre and return pass. Do not chase with all five.

Step 3

Record the type of error, not only the result. If the same zone causes turnovers, change the rule in the main lineup.
