Step 1

Hold the line

Do not step out without cover. Show the opponent away from danger before attacking the ball.

Step 2

Tracking preserves distance; a tackle ends the event. Do not substitute one for the other on every touch.

Step 3

Check the nearest safe pass before clearing. A good first pass is often worth more than a risky central carry.
